Why two hospitality workers built a roster tool and gave it away
Beth and Milan had stood on both sides of that gap, so in 2026 they started building the thing that closes it. The free platform launched in March 2026, and the marketplace is next, starting in Sydney.
Both sides of the same gap
A backpacker lands in Sydney for a month and wants bar shifts, not a job. Across town a pub needs a glassy for one busy Saturday and does not want to hire anyone to get it.
Venues are the hard side
You are asking an owner to let a stranger behind the bar. Signing up on the off chance of posting a shift one day is not worth the effort, because venues do not know yet what they are going to need.
Come for the tool, stay for the network
So the order changed. Build a roster and award-pay tool good enough to use every week, hand it over free, and earn the trust first. When a shift on that roster goes unfilled, offer to fill it.

2026: Shiftly starts in Brisbane
Beth and Milan set out to build an on-demand labour marketplace for hospitality. The free rostering tool gets added to the plan once it becomes clear venues will not sign up to a marketplace on its own.
March 2026: the free platform goes live
The web platform, Shiftly Go for managers and Shiftly Me for staff launch together. Rostering, timesheets, leave, onboarding and award interpretation, free, with no per-employee fee.
Next: On-Demand opens in Sydney
The marketplace opens to Sydney venues first, hospitality first. Other regions follow as the worker pool grows.
Why is Shiftly free?
Because the software is how Shiftly earns the right to fill your shifts. Rostering, timesheets, leave, onboarding and award interpretation cost nothing, for any number of staff and any number of sites. There is one place Shiftly makes money: a venue fills a shift through On-Demand and pays for the hours worked, super on top, an 8% service fee and a $1 super processing fee, and the shifter pays Shiftly 8% too.

Per-employee pricing punishes the venues that hire the most casuals, which are the same venues with the most shifts they cannot cover. Take the fee away and those venues get onto one roster. An open shift on that roster is the moment on-demand cover is worth something. A venue that never uses it never pays. What Shiftly is not
Three things people mix up about Shiftly, set straight.
Not a payroll provider
Shiftly works out what each shift costs under the award and sends the timesheets and pay data to your payroll software. Xero is included free. You check the numbers and run the pay run.
Not a labour-hire agency
Shifters are independent contractors, engaged by your venue directly. Shiftly handles the payment through the platform. We do not employ the worker and we do not place staff for you.
Not any other Shiftly
This Shiftly is Australian and lives at shiftly.au. The driver apps and car-dealer software that share the name have nothing to do with us.
