Stack'd Burgers runs its roster and timesheets on Shiftly for $0 a month

A Sydney burger venue swapped paid rostering software for a platform with no per-employee fee, and kept the support a paid product is supposed to buy you.
- per employee, per month, for rostering, timesheets and award pay
- $0
- Vidushka's public rating of Shiftly
- 5 stars
Stack'd Burgers in Mascot, Sydney, rosters its team, collects timesheets and calculates award pay on Shiftly, and pays nothing for the software. Owner Vidushka Vithanage rates the platform five stars. The two things she calls out are the price (a premium rostering system that is completely free) and the support, which came from a co-founder rather than a ticket queue.
What does a burger venue need from a roster?
A burger venue needs a roster that copies week to week, tracks who actually turned up, and gets the penalty rates right when trade runs into the evening and across the weekend. Quick-service venues live on short shifts, casual staff and a head count that swells on Friday and Saturday nights, so the roster changes constantly and every change has a pay consequence.
Most owners in this position have already tried a spreadsheet and outgrown it, then looked at rostering software and found the same model everywhere: a monthly fee per employee, whether that employee worked forty hours or one. For a venue whose casual pool is larger than the number of people on shift at any moment, that fee structure punishes exactly the flexibility the business runs on.
What changed when Stack'd moved to Shiftly
Stack'd got a full rostering, timesheet and award-interpretation platform without the per-employee bill. On Shiftly the roster is built on a calendar view, saved as a template and copied forward, so a standard trading week takes minutes to lay out and the work goes into the exceptions: who is away, which night needs an extra pair of hands, which casual has asked for fewer shifts.
Staff clock in and out on their phones through Shiftly Me, and the timesheet is assembled from those clock events rather than typed in from memory at the end of the week. The manager approves the sheet, the award engine calculates the pay including penalties, overtime and allowances, and the result exports to whichever payroll system the venue already uses. Shiftly calculates the pay; it does not run payroll, and does not pretend to.
It's not often you come across a premium rostering system that is completely free. Milan has also been a pleasure to work with, he reached out to provide support and provided quick and reliable help whenever I needed it.
The support line in that quote matters more than it looks. Shiftly is built by a small team, and the co-founders still handle onboarding and product questions directly. Vidushka's experience, being contacted first rather than having to chase, is how the team works with every venue on the platform.
Which award rules does Shiftly handle for a venue like this?
Shiftly's award engine calculates the pay rules that catch venues out: weekend and public holiday penalties, evening loadings, casual loading, overtime triggers and minimum shift lengths. A burger venue sits under either the Hospitality Industry (General) Award or the Fast Food Industry Award depending on how it trades, and the roster software has to apply whichever one the venue is actually on.
For a venue on the Hospitality Award (MA000009), that means the rules below are applied to every approved timesheet automatically. Rates are current for the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.
| Rule | What the award requires | What Shiftly does with it |
|---|---|---|
| Casual loading | 25% on the minimum hourly rate | Applied to every casual hour before penalties |
| Saturday and Sunday | 125% and 150% for full-time and part-time; 150% and 175% for casuals | Calculated from the clock-in and clock-out times on the timesheet |
| Evening work, Monday to Friday | An extra $2.95 an hour from 7pm to midnight | Split automatically when a shift crosses 7pm |
| Public holidays | 225% for full-time and part-time; 250% for casuals | Flagged on the roster and paid at the holiday rate |
| Minimum casual shift | 2 consecutive hours | Warned at roster time, not discovered at pay time |
| Meal breaks | An unpaid 30-minute break within the first 6 hours of a shift longer than 6 hours | Tracked on the timesheet so the 50% no-break penalty is paid when it is owed |
Award figures above are as stated on Shiftly's Hospitality Award guide, last verified July 2026. Which award applies to a specific venue depends on its classification; check with Fair Work or your accountant if you are unsure.
How much does this cost Stack'd?
Nothing. Shiftly's rostering, timesheets, award interpretation, onboarding and leave management are free, with no per-employee, per-location or monthly fee. Shiftly earns revenue from its On-Demand marketplace, where venues fill extra shifts with independent shifters and pay a percentage on the shifts they fill. A venue that only uses the roster never pays. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.
Stack'd is one venue on the platform; if you run a single site with a casual-heavy team, the single-location page walks through the setup in more detail.
This would suit your venue if
- You run a single quick-service or casual-dining venue with a casual-heavy team.
- You are paying a monthly per-employee fee for rostering and want that line gone.
- You want a real person to answer when something in the roster does not behave.
