Free pub and bar rostering, late nights included
Shiftly is free rostering, timesheet and award pay software for Australian pubs, bars and clubs. It applies the Hospitality Industry (General) Award (MA000009) to every shift, including the 7pm-to-midnight and midnight-to-7am loadings, weekend and public holiday penalties and overtime, and from September 2026 fills open bar shifts with on-demand staff in Sydney.

Late-night loadings on every close
Under MA000009 each weekday hour between 7pm and midnight adds $2.95, and each hour between midnight and 7am adds $4.42. A Friday close that runs to 2am carries both, on top of the 25% casual loading.
Weekends and public holidays are the business
Saturday pays casuals 150% of the base rate, Sunday 175% and a public holiday 250%. The nights that make a pub's week are also the ones where a wrong rate costs the most.
Close-then-open turnarounds and multiple roles
A bartender who closes at 1am and opens at 10am has had fewer than the eight hours the award requires between shifts, and is owed overtime. The same person might pour, run the floor and work the kitchen pass in one week.
Award pay
Every hour after 7pm priced the way MA000009 says
Set each person's award, classification and employment type once. Shiftly then reads the hours of each shift and applies the right rate to each one: the $2.95 loading from 7pm, the $4.42 loading from midnight, 150% for a casual on Saturday, 175% on Sunday, 250% on a public holiday, and overtime when someone passes 38 hours or comes back with fewer than eight hours off. Where two penalties overlap, only the higher is paid, exactly as the award requires.
- Late-night loadings applied hour by hour
- Overlapping penalties resolved to the higher rate

Rostering
Close and open without breaching the break between shifts
Build the week from a saved template, drag in extra hands for Friday and Saturday nights, and publish to every phone in one click. Shiftly flags a turnaround of fewer than eight hours between shifts, a casual shift under the two-hour minimum and any double-booking across bar, floor and kitchen, so the roster is award-safe before the doors open.

Timesheets and job costing
Real close times, and what each bar actually cost
Staff clock on and off from the Shiftly Me app with their location checked, so a close that ran to 1:40am is paid to 1:40am, not to the rostered midnight. Managers approve timesheets in a tap, approved hours sync to Xero as a pay run with the award applied, and job costing shows the wage cost of the public bar, the beer garden and the kitchen for the week.

On-demand cover
A Friday-night glassy short, and the group chat has gone quiet
Mark the shift open and Shiftly offers it to your own available staff first. From September 2026, Sydney pubs and bars can post the same shift to Shiftly On-Demand, where independent shifters with an ABN accept it directly. You pay for the hours worked plus Shiftly's fee, with no agency markup, and because shifters work for themselves there is no payroll to run for the cover. Shiftly moves the payment from your venue to the worker.
- Launching in Sydney, September 2026, starting with hospitality
- No agency fees, no payroll for temporary cover

“Shiftly is amazing! If you are looking for rostering software-look no further. Shiftly helps you easily classify employees, their roles and timesheets and the geotratracking element for clocking in and out is also really accurate.”
Roster your pub for free, from this week's trade

Pub and bar rostering, answered
Pubs, hotels, bars and clubs are covered by the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 (MA000009). It sets a 25% casual loading, penalties of 125% (full-time and part-time) or 150% (casual) on Saturday, 150% or 175% on Sunday and 225% or 250% on public holidays, plus hourly loadings for weekday work between 7pm and 7am. Shiftly supports MA000009 as a configured award and applies these rates to every shift.
