Community Guidelines

Introduction

Shiftly connects venues with workers for individual shifts. Along the way people write reviews of each other, send messages about a shift, and fill in a profile. These guidelines set out what belongs on Shiftly, what is not allowed, how to report content or someone's behaviour, how blocking works, and how we moderate.

They apply to everything a person writes or uploads: written reviews, messages, profile bios and links, and the profile photos and files attached to either.

Zero tolerance

There is no place on Shiftly for abusive, harassing, hateful, violent or sexual content, or for people who direct it at others. We remove content that breaches these guidelines and we suspend or remove accounts that do it.

This is not a warning system with a fixed number of chances. A single serious breach, such as a threat or a slur, is enough to lose access to Shiftly permanently.

We screen what people write before it is posted. Content that clearly breaches these guidelines is rejected at the point of writing, and the rest is subject to reporting and review.

How reviews work

  • Once a shift is completed, both the worker and the venue are asked for a star rating. A written review is optional.
  • Reviews are double-blind. Neither side sees the other's rating or written review until both have submitted, or until the review window closes.
  • A rating and review cannot be edited once submitted. This keeps the record honest and stops reviews being revised under pressure.
  • A worker's review of a venue may be shown to other workers on that venue's profile. A venue's review of a worker may be shown on that worker's profile.
  • Ratings only form a public average once there are enough revealed ratings. Before that, a profile shows a “New” state.

What belongs in a review

  • Write about the shift you actually worked or hosted: the briefing, the conditions, the professionalism, the punctuality, whether things went as agreed.
  • Be specific and factual. Describe what happened rather than making a general judgement about a person.
  • Keep it proportionate. A single bad night is not evidence of dishonesty or incompetence.

What is not allowed

Abuse or harassment

Threats, slurs, personal attacks, or content that demeans someone on the basis of race, sex, gender, sexuality, disability, age, religion, or any other protected attribute.

False or misleading claims

Statements about a shift that did not happen, or accusations presented as fact without basis. Allegations of criminal conduct belong in a report to us, and where appropriate to the police, not in a public review.

Personal information

Full names of third parties, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, health information, or anything else that identifies someone who did not consent to being named.

Spam or irrelevant content

Advertising, links, repeated text, or content unrelated to the shift.

Off-platform solicitation

Using a review or a message to arrange work outside Shiftly.

Reporting content or behaviour

You can report from the app anywhere you see the thing you are reporting. There are four things you can report:

  • A review about you that breaches these guidelines.
  • A message someone sent you.
  • A person you have worked a shift with.
  • A venue you have worked a shift for.

You choose a reason (abusive or harassing, false or misleading, contains personal information, spam, or other) and can add detail. You can report the same thing once.

Reported content stays visible while we look at it. Reporting does not remove anything on its own. This stops reporting being used to silence honest but unflattering feedback. Reporting is not an appeal against a low rating.

Blocking someone

Blocking is yours to use and takes effect immediately. You do not need to report someone first, and you do not need a reason.

  • Their reviews and messages are hidden from you.
  • Neither of you can message the other.
  • You stop being matched. A blocked venue's shifts no longer appear in your search and it cannot book you. A blocked worker cannot apply to your shifts and cannot be booked.

The person you block is not notified. You can see everyone you have blocked, and unblock them, under Blocked accounts in your account settings.

How we moderate

  • We review every report within 24 hours of it being raised.
  • We assess each report against these guidelines and either action it or dismiss it. The decision and its reason are recorded.
  • Content we take down is removed from public profiles and stops counting toward any star average.
  • Where a report is about a person or a venue rather than a specific piece of content, there is nothing to take down, so an upheld report is referred to our trust and safety process instead.
  • We do not remove a review simply because it is negative, and nobody can pay to have a review removed. Only a breach of these guidelines is grounds to take content down.
  • Where a report raises a safety or conduct concern, it is also handled under our conduct and safety code.
