Frequently asked questions
Common questions about working shifts through Shiftly, hiring through Shiftly, and how reviews, reporting and blocking work. If your question is not here, contact us and we will answer it.
For workers
What does it cost to use Shiftly?
Nothing to join and nothing to browse. Shiftly charges a platform fee on shifts you work, and it is shown in the earnings breakdown before you apply, so the amount you see is the amount you get.
How do I get paid?
You clock in and clock out in the app. The venue has a short window to review the timesheet, and if they do not act within it the timesheet is approved automatically. Once approved, your payment is released to the bank account on your profile.
Am I an employee?
No. You work for yourself as an independent contractor, so you need a valid ABN. You choose which shifts to apply for and nobody assigns work to you.
Do I get superannuation?
Yes. Superannuation is paid on top of your shift earnings at the current legislated rate.
What if I am registered for GST?
Tell us in the app and Shiftly raises recipient created tax invoices (RCTIs) on your behalf. If you are not registered, no GST is added.
What if I cannot make a shift I accepted?
Cancel in the app as early as you can so the venue has time to find cover. Late cancellations and no-shows affect your reliability score, which venues can see. If something outside your control stopped you, raise it in the app with any evidence and we will assess it.
What if my pay or hours are wrong?
Raise a pay dispute on that shift in the app. Your clock-in and clock-out are included automatically as a record, and you can attach photos or files. Payment for the shift is held until the dispute is resolved.
For venues
How quickly can I fill a shift?
Post the shift with the role, the time and the rate, and workers nearby can apply straight away. You choose who to book from the applicants.
How are rates set?
Rates are set at or above the relevant modern award minimum for the role, the time of day and the day of the week. Workers never bid against each other on price.
What if a worker does not turn up?
Report it on the shift in the app. No-shows affect the worker's reliability score, and you are not charged for a shift that was not worked.
Can I stop working with a particular worker?
Yes. Block them and they can no longer apply to your shifts or be booked by you, and messaging between you stops. They are not notified.
Reviews, reporting and blocking
How do reviews work?
After a completed shift both sides are asked for a star rating, and a written review is optional. Reviews are double-blind, so neither side sees the other's until both have submitted or the window closes. Reviews cannot be edited once submitted.
How do I report something?
You can report from the app anywhere you see the thing you are reporting. There are four things you can report: a review about you, a message someone sent you, a person you have worked a shift with, and a venue you have worked a shift for. You pick a reason and can add detail.
How long does a report take?
We review every report within 24 hours of it being raised. The reported content stays visible while we look at it, so reporting cannot be used to silence honest but unflattering feedback.
Can I get a bad review removed?
Only if it breaches our community guidelines. We do not remove reviews for being negative, and nobody can pay to have a review removed.
What does blocking do?
Their reviews and messages are hidden from you, neither of you can message the other, and you stop being matched for shifts. The person you block is not notified. You can unblock anyone under Blocked accounts in your account settings.
Do I have to report someone before I can block them?
No. Blocking is yours to use at any time, for any reason, and it takes effect immediately.
