Conduct and safety code

Introduction

This is the conduct and safety code you agree to when you join Shiftly. It covers how you are expected to behave on a shift, what to do when something is unsafe, and what happens when the code is breached. Venues agree to their own obligations under the same code.

You accept this code in the app, and we record which version you accepted and when. If we change it in a way that matters, we will ask you to accept it again.

Turning up

  • Only accept shifts you intend to work and are able to work.
  • Arrive on time, at the right venue, ready to start.
  • Come dressed for the role and bring anything the shift listing says to bring.
  • Hold the licences and credentials the role requires, and keep them current.
  • If you cannot make a shift, tell us as early as you can through the app so the venue can find cover.

Not turning up without telling anyone leaves a venue short-staffed at short notice. Repeated no-shows affect your reliability and can cost you access to Shiftly.

How you treat people

  • Treat venue staff, other workers and customers with respect.
  • Follow reasonable directions from the venue about how the work is done.
  • Do not harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone.
  • Do not attend a shift under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Harassment and discrimination include conduct directed at someone because of their race, sex, gender, sexuality, disability, age, religion or any other protected attribute. There is no tolerance for it, on a shift or in messages on Shiftly.

Safety on site

  • Follow the site's safety rules and any induction the venue gives you.
  • Use the protective equipment the role requires.
  • Do not do work you are not trained, licensed or physically able to do safely.
  • Report hazards to the venue at the time, so they can be fixed.

You are entitled to a safe place of work. If a venue asks you to do something unsafe, you can refuse it. Refusing genuinely unsafe work will never count against your reliability.

Reporting something unsafe

If something on a shift was unsafe, or someone behaved badly, raise it in the app. Open the shift and raise a report under safety or conduct. You can attach photos or files, and your clock-in and clock-out are included automatically as a record.

Safety and conduct reports go to our trust and safety team. They are separate from pay disputes and never affect what you are paid for the shift.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 000 first. Report it to us afterwards.

What happens when the code is breached

  • We look into what happened and record the decision and its reason.
  • Depending on what we find, we may issue a warning, restrict access to certain venues, suspend an account, or remove it permanently.
  • Serious conduct, including violence, threats, harassment, discrimination or attending a shift impaired, can result in permanent removal on a single occasion.
  • Where conduct may be criminal, we may report it to the police and cooperate with them.

You can block a venue or a person at any time, for any reason, without making a report. Blocking hides their content from you, stops messaging between you, and stops the two of you being matched for shifts.
